Organizational Strategic Plan Creation
As subject matter experts in energy efficiency - RFS supported the ReCover Initiative by guiding their organization strategically to reach their vision of providing affordable deep energy retrofits across Canada through a systematic and modular approach (aka panelization or Energiesprong).
Key Support Components:

Strategic Planning Process - Engaging closely with the ReCover Initiative team throughout planning to ensure alignment of core foundational principles and outcomes.

Business Plan & Organizational Material Development - Designing documents to aid in organizational ongoing management and guide decision making for strategic growth.

ESB Pilot Project in Calgary, Alberta
An on-the-ground pilot aimed at gathering real time data in cold climate to support key stakeholders in decision-making on the path of electrifying 50,000 diesel school buses across Canada.
Key Outputs:

Collecting vehicle performance and energy consumption data through monitoring of an ESB, conducting data analysis, collecting reliability metrics.

Technical brief, Business Case and Research Report to support the future investment of electrifying all school buses across Canada.

Final Research Report compared research findings with other jurisdictions ESB studies.

Remote Work Program Design, Evaluation and Employee Survey
RFS Energy supported the City in designing and launching the Remote Work Program in 2021 and subsequently continues to monitor, evaluate and make recommendations on the program and associated policies.
Support Services Include:

Primary data collection and stakeholder engagement with City staff.

Develop survey objectives, tool, KPIs and communication messaging.

Desktop research and community benchmarking surveying and interviews to support policy recommendations for stakeholders and senior leadership.

City of Edmonton
Remote Work Program Research and Benchmarking
The research goal was to assess the positive and negative impacts of instituting a telework policy for City of Edmonton employees. The project was designed to complement the City’s newly-formed Remote Work Program with additional research, data analysis, modelling, and employee survey information.
Key Outputs:

A high-level inventory of the benefits and drawbacks of telework policies.

Calculated potential transportation-related GHG emissions reductions from telework policy.

A mini-Energy Efficiency Guidebook for distribution to employees working remotely.

A list of “best practices” and qualitative feedback from CoE employees through survey to inform policy.

Low Income Direct Install Program Analysis Project

Alberta Real Estate Foundation
Telework Impacts on the Real Estate Industry in Alberta
This project will assist in supporting the Alberta real estate community by:
Providing real estate market actors, in particular business owners and facility managers (including municipal owners), access to implementable research information tailored to their unique workforce and facility needs and challenges post-pandemic to support future decisions.
Providing real estate professionals with ongoing access to information through a resource hub populated and maintained with up-to-date resources.

Climate Innovation Fund - Alberta Ecotrust Foundation
Remote Work: An In-Depth Assessment of Impacts at Community and Municipal Levels
The project aims to measure the total GHG emission reduction potential of telework (direct and indirect) for the CoE as an organization and the community.
Key project components include:

Identifying the information, resources, and community input required to increase the adoption of telework and facilitate its integration into Community Energy Plans and Corporate Climate Action Plans in order to maximize benefits.

An analysis of the CoE’s current Community Energy Plan and provide recommendations for how to incorporate potential GHG reductions through telework, guidance on how to leverage telework as a climate mitigation strategy for the broader Edmonton community.

The proposed project intends to identify and work with 2-3 key stakeholders to commit to officially integrating telework into their climate action/ESG plans by providing guidance around measuring and tracking long-term telework-related GHG emissions reductions.
